The price of trauma…
When you grow up in a dysfunctional environment, you pay the price for it in adulthood.
It’s not easy to accept, but in the context of healing, the effects of trauma must be part of the conversation.
I experienced trauma in my youth and know that healing those wounds can take time. And there’s another layer of trauma that gets even less attention, if any: the layer of shame.
People who’ve suffered trauma often carry a lot of shame. Things that seem to come easily to others may present extra challenges to them. So, if you’ve suffered from acute, chronic, or even complex trauma, it’s time to let yourself off the hook.
Let this message be a reminder to always be kind to yourself.
Overwhelming feelings of stress and anxiety are signs that your nervous system is overloaded or in need of regulation. There are many positive and healing ways to manage this kind of stress. But the first step to healing trauma is to release the shame that often comes along with it.
Take a minute and tell yourself you’re doing the best you can, and tomorrow’s another day.
Love,
Liesje
